Statistical Map
link Statistical maps represent different statistics for different areas. There are many different kind of statistical maps such as a dot map.
Cartograms
linkA cartogram is a map that uses land area or distance to replace a thematic mapping variable. The map above is a rescaling of counties based on their population. Therefore counties with large populations are enlarged and counties with small populations are decreased.

An Isoline map depicts something that is actually 3 dimensional in a 2 dimensional map. This is an example of a map that displays the temperatures in North Carolina.

Proportional Circle Map

Proportional circle maps depict numerical information proportional to the circle size. For instance this map shows the Mexican population in the Western USA with the larger circles meaning a greater population.

Chloropleth Map
link A chloropleth map shades certain areas in different colors depending on their statistical number in whatever the map is trying to portray. This map is depicting the about of domestic freshwater use in 1990.
Dot Distribution Map
This map is a dot distribution that represents people with AIDS as of September 1997. Each dot is a representative of 30 cases. This type of map is used to show the frequency of a certain thing in a certain area.
Propoganda Map
link This is a propaganda map depicting Russia as taking over the East. A propaganda map is a depiction of information that is typically distorted to make the reader believe whatever the message the map is trying to portray.
Hypsometric Map
link This is a hypsometric and a topographic map. The hypsometric tint depicts the different elevations of the land being mapped. There are also contour lines on this map making it a topographic map.
